For years flyfishers have been trying to win the battle with toothy fish. Pike, musky and saltwater monsters like barracuda have presented special challenges. They can tear a mono leader apart in seconds.

Stainless steel leaders, either single or multi-strand, don’t last. Often, after landing only one fish, the leader is badly kinked or pigtailed, and needs to be replaced.

Now BlueSky has combined the casting turnover power of Furled Leaders with Titanium to create the Premium BlueSky-Ti® leader.

Using Medical-grade Titanium, these leaders are designed to take all the punishment toothy fish can deliver and still retain strength and straightness.

1. Single-strand Stainless Steel is prone to severe kinking, replacement is necessary
2. Multi-strand Stainless Steel is prone to pigtail and curl, replacement recommended
3. We use Albright and Clinch knots only, 100% knot reliability
4. Due to slipperiness and stretch of titanium alloys, connector sleeves are not used

The BlueSky-Ti Furled Leader
The titanium wire we use is very flexible and kink resistant, unlike single or multi-strand stainless steel leaders. One of our field testers, for example, has caught numerous pike and musky using the same leader. A single-strand stainless wire leader is often only good for one fish, becoming severely kinked requiring that the bite guard or leader be replaced. Additionally, a multi-strand stainless wire becomes pigtailed and curled after it has passed across a few sharp teeth.

  • We do not use crimped connector sleeves as they are not suitable for use with titanium. Titanium alloys are very slippery and allow for stretch. Crimped connector sleeves can cause up to 50% failure of connections.
  • Our Albright and clinch knots provide absolute 100% knot reliability. We have not had a failure of the clinch knot used to connect the wire with the snap.
